Murud Janjira

This time our trip took us to Murud, a small village at the coast of Maharashtra. We stayed at a nice place with a view to the ocean.

Murud Janjira is a fort, built in the water pretty close to the coast. (An easy way to remember that you are in India: every time you take a few pictures you have some animals on them. Like the goats in this one.) :) ...oh, and in the background is Murud Janjira.

We "sailed" to the fort in one of those small boats. There was no wind, but we still got there and fortunately we didn't have to paddle ourselves. It was warm enough even without physical exercise.

Some "misunderstanding" with our guides about the charge to pay left us without explanations of the historical background. But we nevertheless enjoyed it and simply made up our own stories.

This is actually a sweet water lake, fascinating to see in a fort surrounded by salt water and perfect for people who like to drink green water.

I discovered the fact that the more colorful a bird is, the more difficult it is to take a picture of it.
There were some really beautiful yellow-green birds ... I got a picture of a black one.
You are welcome to tell me what bird it is. ;-)

Back to the car we became friends with this guy, who had watched the car while we were gone.

We also had the unique opportunity to buy some colored chicks (weird people who color eggs when they can color the chicken). But we could resist the temptation.

After lunch our schedule announced a beautiful beach, and well, it was alright. Some parts had their own beauty, which was more fascinating in its own way than the sand beaches.

But there was also sand and the opportunity to sleep in the sun and to get roastet.

Since it was really cheap (being used to European and Canadian prices) some of us took the opportunity for some more flying experiences (That's me in the picture, as you can easily tell). It was not THAT exciting, but it was fun.

Some guys at the beach gave us the cold shoulder ...

... but we also became close friends with some others.

Back to the hotel we watched the sun set.

The next day started pretty good as well. Actually the temperature was ok (before 7 am) and I tried to take some pictures of non-black birds.

Wellllllllll, not as nice as the ones on the fort (that you will never get to see) ... but not completely black either! :)

Wow, the pic of the crab is amazing! I remember this little cross-eyed one --- but what a shame you weren't fast enough for the really huuuuge crabs! I mean the gigantic ones that were about half a meter long!

yeah, I couldn't swim that fast, too bad.
Maybe next time you can catch them and hold them until I took a picture?

Maybe the black shadow is a Large-billed Crow and the bird with the white breast is a kind of Kingfisher.

@ anonym: some really nice animals on this bird-website. I hope to see some more in the next months.

@ Kristina: creepy? :D hehe, that's the good part about it! But I agree.
We are a bit out of ideas right now where else close to Pune we could go. I should post pictures from the ants in our flat.
